Tour de Mesa - April

For Christmas Nick bought me a road bike. Originally we had planned to ride 72 miles in the Tour de Mesa and 73 miles in the Tour of the Tucson Mountains - both in April. I was only able to ride my bike a couple of times before I got pregnant and sick though:( By the time I felt better the race was only a month away. I didn't feel I had enough time to train for a race that long so I opted to enter the shorter races. Nick's sister Candice entered the 25 mile race with me while Nick and Donnie rode the longer one.

Nick's bike all ready to go.

Getting in line in the "nick" of time. we were running a little late. Luckily his dad saved him a spot.

Showing off their Jersey's - Brazil & Venezuela

Look closely at Nick's face. He is getting excited to start:)

Waving to me as the race starts

Candice showed up and waited with me for our race to begin.

Lining up and feeling a little nervous:)

We're off! Thanks to Donita for taking a nice shot of my big pregnant booty (19 weeks)

Nick arriving at the finish line. Right when you cross they mark your number and rip your timing chip off.

Nick waiting for us all to get finish. After I got back from my race Nick was telling me about the wreck he and his Dad got in with 20 other people while going 28 mph! The guy who caused it was rushed to the hospital with a broken collar bone. Luckily our guys got off with some road rash, a few bruises, some minor mechanical issues, and were able to continue on.

The small bit of road rash after the race. He was lucky that's all that happened to him. His dad had quite a few more bumps and bruises and his helmet was totally smashed in the back!

Eating lunch after the race. I may not look like it, but I really enjoyed this race, and I couldn't wait for the next one in two weeks!

Oh and Candice was awesome. I think it was the first time she had ridden more than 8 miles on her bike and you never would have known!

I would have shown our times but Nick and I ended up switching timing chips and our times were all messed up. I did however meet my goal of finishing in under two hours.
