Coyote Story
There is a pack of coyotes that live in the desert surrounding our house. They roam our neighborhood. They hunt and howl and we think they ate our little dog Thiago:( There are some people from the retirement community next door who cruise up and down our street every night at dusk looking to get a glimpse of them. We think they may be feeding them but we're not sure. These coyotes are pretty aggressive and they're not afraid of humans at all. One day last month we had a pretty crazy experience while we were on a family walk. It was around 10 in the morning. We were about halfway down our street when a crazed looking jack rabbit burst out of the brush onto the road. It looked like it was running for it's life. Of course Dude got excited and started chasing it down. We had all the kids watching and I kept telling Nick, "Call the dog back. "Do not let him kill that rabbit right in front of the kids." They of course were very excited to see the rabbit and were paying extremely close attention to its every move. Nick kept calling Dude and then ran after him. Of course Dude wouldn't listen. He caught the rabbit and it started screaming. (Yes they really make a horrible screaming noise). I looked to my left and I saw a huge coyote running in the brush a few feet from the road. It was heading towards Nick and Dude as fast as it could. I yelled to Nick that there was a coyote coming. Then I saw another one. Nick said he saw three in total. They were obviously hunting the rabbit. Lucky for us we happened to intersect their hunt. Dude took the rabbit and ran off and I gathered the kids in close to me because they were riding their bikes. Nick threw some rocks and the coyotes backed away into the brush. We then decided it was time to head home. It was pretty intense mainly because we had the kids with us. As we walked home we saw that Dude had left a trail of blood from the rabbit which he conveniently dragged up to our front door. Nice! We took the kids inside, and wrestled the rabbit away from the dog, then Nick disposed of it and scrubbed the blood off the driveway. The end!

Dude was so proud of himself for catching the rabbit.

The poor rabbit got his cute little tail bitten off!

How scary!! Poor little bunny. Were the kids scared or were they loving it?
Crazy! Good thing Nick scared those Coyotes away- was Nick scared for a minute when they were running towards him. That's Arizona for you- nosiy coyotes. I remember our car got chased by a Coyoate and got away.
Scary! I am glad no one was hurt!
