Grandpa Brown

Last month my Grandfather passed away. I have wanted to post about it for awhile but I have really felt at a loss to appropriately pay tribute to him. As everyone who spoke at his funeral said over and over, how do you adequately convey the impact this man had on those around him? His death has made me think a lot about my Mom. You can see I don't talk a lot about her on here. My feelings about her death are still really mixed so I don't write about it a lot. Throughout her life she had a very special relationship with my Grandpa, for which I have been especially grateful for as I learn more about her.

I was able to go up to Utah to attend his funeral and I was so touched to see how many people were able to attend on very short notice. The effort that people went to in order to be there is in itself a testament to him. There is really nothing I can say to do him justice. He literally spent his life in the service of others. Growing up as I was taught over and over to strive to be like Christ he was one of the main examples I turned to.

The funeral was beautifuI and I am so glad that I was able to go and honor his life and spend time with family and loved ones. I especially want to thank my Aunt Leisel for her tribute to him. I was touched by the things she shared about him and she allowed us all to remember him exactly the way I think he would have wanted us to.

Almost every time I saw him for as long as I can remember we had this conversation.
Grandpa: Jacie, you know what?
Jacie: What?
Grandpa: "I sure do love you, and you know what else?"
Jacie: What?
Grandpa: "I'm glad you're my granddaughter!"
Jacie: Me too.

I'm sure he had this conversation with many people in his life. As a child it was a fun game to look forward but as an adult I finally began to appreciate the meaning behind it, and the fact that he always wanted me to remember this.

I miss and love him and I am grateful for the love and devotion he always showed to me.

Here are a few of my favorite photos of the funeral.

Jacie, you wrote a very personal and heartfelt blog that certainly touched me.

I've been on the fence about keeping good relationships with some of my family and if anything, this motivates me to be better at it. thank you for the blog entry. i really mean it!

Hey Jacie. So sorry to hear about your grandpa. I always thought your grandparents were very cool people. The conversation that you wrote about him and you kind of reminds me about my Mom's Dad. He's very loving and gives service to everyone just like your Grandpa did. And he always tells me he loves me. At least your Grandpa and Mom are reunited. How awesome!

Jacie,

I was sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. I am glad that you were able to attend the funeral. I know your mom had a special relationship with her dad and I'm sure she was so excited to be reunited with him again. What a sweet time for them both. I hope your grandma is doing well.
